Vitanova ingredients: the full formula with amounts

The table shows everything in one capsule, as listed on the official ingredients page. Because the jar holds one serving a day, the amount per capsule is also the daily amount.

Other ingredients: vegetable capsule "00" (hypromellose), microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, silicon.

Green tea extract (154 mg) is the largest single ingredient. It is standardised, which means each batch is made to contain a fixed share of polyphenols (60%) and of EGCG (10%), the compound green tea is best known for.

Apple cider vinegar (150 mg) is the familiar kitchen-cupboard ingredient, taken here in a capsule rather than by the spoonful, so there is no sharp taste.

Berberine HCl (85 mg) is a bright yellow plant compound found in barberry, goldenseal and Chinese goldthread. Vitanova uses it as a hydrochloride at 97% purity. It has become one of the most talked-about supplement ingredients of recent years.

Chromium picolinate (0.1 mg) supplies chromium, a trace mineral, in the form most often used in supplements. 0.1 mg is the same as 100 micrograms.

Ginger root (50 mg) and cinnamon extract (20 mg) are two warming kitchen spices. The cinnamon is a 10:1 extract, so it is concentrated compared with the ground spice.

Bitter orange extract (20 mg) comes from the Seville orange and is standardised to 6% synephrine. Cayenne pepper (20 mg) is rated at 40,000 heat units, which tells you how hot the chilli is.

Banaba extract (5 mg) is made from the leaves of a tropical tree and standardised to 2% corosolic acid. Korean ginseng (5 mg) is the classic Panax root, at 8% ginsenosides. Resveratrol (1 mg) is the compound found in red grape skins, here as a 200:1 extract.

There are no sweeteners, colours or flavourings on the list. The capsule shell is plant-based hypromellose rather than gelatine.

Taking Vitanova is deliberately simple: one capsule, one glass of water, a short while before you eat.

1. One capsule, once a day

   The maker's instruction reads: "Take one capsule once a day, without chewing, with a glass of water, approximately 15–30 minutes before a meal (lunch or dinner)."

2. Pick the meal that suits you

   Lunch or dinner both work. Most people find it easiest to tie the capsule to the same meal each day, so it becomes part of the routine rather than something to remember.

3. Keep going for the length of the jar

   Each jar holds 30 capsules, so it lasts a month. One capsule is the daily limit, so never double up, and keep eating a varied, balanced diet alongside it.
